Fan art movie poster design for Park Chan-wook's 2002 thriller, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. This is the first movie of his Vengeance Trilogy and my favorite of the three. The movie's main character is deaf and mute, so much of the story unfolds visually through pristine cinematography with little to no dialogue. The subject of revenge is portrayed as an unrelenting force that slowly turns the lives of each character into a violent nightmare. Rather than show the violence, I wanted to create a dream-like image that paid homage to the rich cinematography while hinting at the movie's dark subject matter.

 

The second design was my initial idea. It didn't quite pan out the way I envisioned, but I wanted to include it since I do like certain aspects.
